Lecce "falls" into the relegation zone

Lecce "falls" into the relegation zone

LECCE - With 180 minutes to go until the end of the championship, Lecce's fate is still to be written. But salvation will no longer depend solely on the Giallorossi, who are currently in the relegation zone with Empoli, due to Venezia's victory over Fiorentina. Six points from the last two games might not be enough for the Salento team...

And so the day after the away game against Hellas Verona there is a lot of regret for the Giallorossi, who would have liked to find a success that would have been crucial in terms of salvation. In the end, it turned out to be a somewhat disappointing draw for the way it came about and because the match once again highlighted difficulties that the Giallorossi team really seems unable to find a solution to. The goal conceded that set the final result at 1-1 really seems to be the exact representation of the last few months: a slow, mocking, inexorably descending parabola.

Lecce has not won since the away game in Parma on January 31st. From then on, in 13 games the Giallorossi have collected a paltry 5 points. A largely negative trend that has reshuffled the cards in the lower part of the standings and has caused the team from Salento to fall back into the hot zone. To save themselves, to do something exceptional, the ordinary is no longer enough. You need to go beyond your limits, pushing yourself beyond the ordinary administration. The Lecce seen in the second half in Verona appeared like a team with a "little arm", to use the tennis jargon. A team that held the field well overall, but that did not find the strength to take the episodes on their side, trying with all their might to find a victory that would have been vital with two days to go.

Now the results can no longer wait. On Sunday Lecce will face Torino. And to think that the Giallorossi have not yet won at home in the second half of the season. Winning over the Granata team becomes an imperative: any result other than victory would risk almost completely wrecking any hope of salvation. It would be a real shame for a Lecce that despite its obvious limitations had and still has all the credentials to achieve the seasonal objective. Limitations of a technical nature, which are evident for example in the disappointing numbers of the offensive phase. But also limitations of a character nature, which can be seen in the difficulty shown by the team in reading some moments of the matches and reacting to the difficulties on the pitch.

As for the standings, it is impossible at the moment to make tables and evaluate the various crossovers between the teams entangled in the fight for salvation: there are still too many teams busy trying to get up from the bottom of the standings, because Empoli's success over Parma has further shortened the distances at the bottom of the table, reshuffling all the discussions. Not to mention Venezia's victory yesterday against Fiorentina.

Lecce will return to the Acaya pitch this afternoon to resume training. Today the Lega Serie A will set the time of the match: next match day all matches will be played on Sunday and the contemporaneity will be guaranteed between the teams fighting for the same objective. The resumption of training will be useful to check the conditions of the team upon their return from the away match in Verona. The spotlight will be on Gaspar in particular. The Angolan centre-back was forced to leave the pitch complaining of pain in his shoulder after a violent clash on an aerial ball.
